How to find your router IP address
Find your default gateway on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone and Android.
Your router's IP address (also called the default gateway) is the address you type into a browser to open its settings page. It's usually something like 192.168.1.1. Here's how to find it on any device.
Common router IP addresses
Try these first. Type one into your browser's address bar while connected to your home network.
| Router IP | Often used by |
|---|---|
192.168.1.1 | Linksys, Netgear, Asus, TP-Link and many others |
192.168.0.1 | D-Link, Netgear, TP-Link |
10.0.0.1 | Xfinity (Comcast) gateways |
192.168.1.254 | AT&T gateways |
192.168.86.1 | Google Nest Wifi |
10.0.1.1 | Apple AirPort |
Windows
- Press Windows + R, type
cmdand press Enter. - Type
ipconfigand press Enter. - Look for Default Gateway under your Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter. That's your router's IP.
Mac
Open System Settings > Network, choose Wi-Fi or Ethernet, click Details, then TCP/IP. The Router line shows the address. Or, in Terminal:
route -n get default | grep gateway
Linux
ip route | grep default
The address after "via" is your router.
iPhone and iPad
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the (i) next to your network, and look for Router.
Android
Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi, tap your network, then look for Gateway or Router, sometimes under "Advanced". The exact menu names vary by phone maker.
Router IP vs your public IP
Your router has two addresses. The private one (like 192.168.1.1) faces your home network. The public one faces the internet and is shared by every device in your home. ipfind.org shows the public one. Learn the difference.
Can't log in?
The username and password are often printed on a sticker on the router. If they've been changed and forgotten, a factory reset (holding the reset button for about 10 seconds) restores the defaults, but it also erases your Wi-Fi settings.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most common router IP address?
192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 are the most common. Xfinity gateways use 10.0.0.1 and AT&T gateways use 192.168.1.254.
Is my router IP the same as my public IP?
No. Your router's private IP (such as 192.168.1.1) is used inside your home. Your public IP is what websites see, and ipfind.org shows it.
Why can't I open my router's IP in a browser?
Make sure you are connected to that router's network, type the address without "https", and check that you have the right gateway address using the steps above.
